David John Williams 1885-1970
Address/Location:
Born and died in Rhydycamerau. A prominent Welsh-language writer and Welsh nationalist, he taught English at the Grammar School in Fishguard, PEM. He was one of the founders of Plaid Cymru, and took part in the burning of the bombing school at Penyberth in 1936, for which he was imprisoned. His writings reflect a deep love of Carmarthenshire rural life. In 1963 he was elected President of the Welsh Academy.
He was buried in the graveyard at Rhydycamerau, and the memorial stone shown above was erected in Fishguard in 1985. (SM9537)
